2015 PRC President's Award Winner: Methodist Health System

Each year, Professional Research Consultants (PRC), a nationally-known health care marketing research company headquartered in Omaha, presents its most prestigious award -- the President's Award -- to one organization or individual for making an extraordinary contribution to healthcare.The 2015 President's Award winner is Methodist Health System.

The President's Award, according to PRC, "recognizes those who are the most progressive in implementing strategies aimed at improving experiences for patients, physicians and employees."

As PRC President Joe Inguanzo explained, "The PRC President's Award for 2015 is to recognize Nebraska Methodist Health System and its affiliates for being able to pull together and take on the extra load, especially during the last four months of 2014. We believe that the journey you have taken during the past few years in becoming excellent from the perspective of your patients, employees and physicians has allowed Methodist Health System to provide and deliver excellent care during extraordinary circumstances."

The award announcement was made when health care leaders from across the United States gathered together for the 2015 PRC Excellence in Healthcare Awards Conference, held May 31 - June 2 in Scottsdale, Arizona.

Representatives from Methodist Health System included Sue Korth, Methodist Women's Hospital VP & COO;  Cindy Mirfield, NICU Service Leader;  Hayley Jambor, NICU Attending RN; Karen Tesina, Methodist Hospital Cardiovascular Service Line Executive; Donna Hubbell, Methodist Jennie Edmundson VP of Quality & Patient Safety; and Mary Colburn, MJE Director of Ortho/Neuro/Oncology.

Past PRC President's Award winners include Quint Studer (The Studer Group), Pensacola, FL; Novant Health, Winston-Salem, NC; Inova Health System, Falls Church, VA; and HCA Central and West Texas, Austin, TX.  

MHS Top Performer, 5-Star & 4-Star PRC Excellence in Healthcare Award Winners

In addition to the President's Award, Methodist Health System also garnered six Top Performer Awards, fifteen 5-Star Awards,  one 4-Star Award and a Platinum Achievement Award from PRC for excellent patient ratings of overall quality of care.

PRC Top Performer Awards are given annually to each health care facility, provider, outpatient service line or inpatient unit that scores at or above the 100th percentile for overall quality of care for the prior calendar year.

In addition to the Top Performer Awards, Methodist Health System also earned  5-Star and 4-Star honors in various health care areas. The 5-Star Award is given annually to health care facilities, providers, outpatient service lines and inpatient units that score in the top 10 percent, or above the 90th percentile, based on patient ratings. The 4-Star Award goes to health care facilities scoring in the top 25 percent, specifically between the 75th and 89th percentiles.

MHS 4-Star Award Winner

PRC patient perception research is conducted to obtain the opinions of the patients at MHS hospitals via a confidential survey that assesses their perceptions of patient care. These and other research findings are used to continuously improve and enhance patient satisfaction throughout Methodist Health System.

Platinum Achievement Award Winner: Methodist Women's Hospital NICU

The Methodist Women's Hospital NICU garnered a Platinum PRC Achievement Award for Inpatient Pediatrics.

PRC Achievement Awards are submission-based awards that require applicants to identify areas of improvement in patient satisfaction, and then develop and implement a strategic plan to improve key drivers of patient satisfaction and demonstrate how that plan impacted the unit’s PRC scores.

The Methodist Women's Hospital Achievement Award application, submitted by NICU Attending RN Hayley Jambor, described the strategy behind the NICU's dramatic increase in Excellent ratings for two key drivers from first quarter to fourth quarter 2014:

  • “Nurse’s Explanation of Treatment” rose from 60% Excellent to 85.2% Excellent.
  • “Overall Quality of Care” rose from 60% Excellent to 88.9% Excellent.
