Larissa Eyberg and Kylie Kerger Honored With Good Catch Award
The Good Catch Award is designed to recognize staff members committed to patient safety.
This recognition is presented monthly and goes to the department in which the good catch occurred. Nominations for the award are taken from reported variances where a near miss is caught. Those variances are flagged for consideration of this award. A near miss is an incident or event that has occurred and had the potential to cause harm but was caught before it reached the patient.

Methodist Jennie Edmundson Hospital Radiology CT
Larissa Eyberg and Kylie Kerger, CT scan technologists at Methodist Jennie Edmundson Hospital, have been honored with the Good Catch Award.
Patient presented to CT for a CTA PE study of the chest. IV access was through a Power Port in the left chest. CT staff was unable to draw blood back from the port and questioned port integrity. Upon further evaluation of the patient's chart, CT staff noticed the patient had a vascular US of the left extremity where occlusions of the left subclavian, brachial and vessels around the port were present. This was brought to the attention of a radiologist, and the CT staff were informed not to use the port due to potential harm to the patient. A peripheral IV was then started in the patient's right wrist, and the exam was able to continue as needed.
Congratulations, Larissa and Kylie! Thank you for your commitment to keeping our patients safe.
