Lisa Tracy Is November's Good Catch Award Winner
The Good Catch Award is designed to recognize staff members committed to patient safety.
This recognition is presented monthly and goes to the department in which the good catch occurred. Nominations for the award are taken from reported variances where a near miss is caught. Those variances are flagged for consideration of this award. A near miss is an incident or event that has occurred and had the potential to cause harm but was caught before it reached the patient.
The November Good Catch Award goes to Lisa Tracy, a Registration staff member at Methodist Hospital.
A patient was checking in at the Registration desk for a scheduled heart catheterization when she displayed difficulty holding and writing with a pen. She also had slurred speech and a right facial droop. Lisa Tracy notified the Cath Lab that the patient was displaying strokelike symptoms. She was taken to the Cardiovascular Center, where she was questioned further by medical personnel. A decision was made at that time to take the patient to the Emergency Department for further medical evaluation and treatment.
