Congratulations to Jennie Edmundson's Good Catch Award Recipient
The Good Catch Award is designed to recognize staff members committed to patient safety.
This recognition is presented monthly and goes to the department in which the good catch occurred. Nominations for the award are taken from reported variances where a near miss is caught. Those variances are flagged for consideration of this award. A near miss is an incident or event that has occurred that had the potential to cause harm but was caught before it reached the patient.
Kristin McClaron, RN
The May Good Catch Award goes to Kristin McClaron, float nurse in telemetry at Methodist Jennie Edmundson Hospital.
Kristin's patient had a nitro drip ordered as part of "Gen. Adm. Heart Failure" Power Plan. The order was built with a rate of 5 mcg/kg/min, which for this 104.8 kg patient resulted in a rate of 165mL/hr.
She questioned this dosing as the rate should have been built in power plan as 5mcg/min. The plan was new and had just started that day. The Methodist Jennie Edmundson pharmacy department made sure that the plan was updated for the entire health system.
Great job, Kristin, and thank you for your dedication to Methodist Jennie Edmundson Hospital and our patients!
