New Recycling Infrastructure & Engagement Program
Last year, Methodist completed its first Sustainability Master Plan. Since the plan’s completion in August, staff have been hard at work implementing strategies outlined in it.
You may have noticed that Methodist Hospital, Methodist Women’s Hospital, Methodist Jennie Edmundson Hospital and the 825 Building have new waste and recycling signage, and cardboard recycling has been implemented throughout the system.
Please take a look at our recycling guidelines for instructions on how to properly dispose of commonly found items throughout the system. A major change you may notice: All employees are now asked to place all paper in shred bins rather than recycling (shredded paper is recycled too!).
This change not only helps streamline our recycling system but also ensures adherence to confidentiality regulations.
A high-priority strategy in the Sustainability Master Plan was to develop a formal sustainability engagement program throughout the system to give staff an avenue to engage in activities and help implement strategies.
We are excited to announce Methodist’s Sustainability Healthcare Integration Program (SHIP).
SHIP includes a formal committee that meets once a month to plan and execute events. It also includes an ambassador program that will call on staff to help disseminate information and volunteer with various events throughout the year.
To get involved in SHIP, please send an email to NMHS.Sustainability@nmhs.org.
To learn more about SHIP and our new recycling protocols, please visit a sustainability event at your location (see times below). This will be an opportunity for you to talk to SHIP committee members, test your recycling skills and sign up for our listserv in exchange for being entered in a raffle for two Fontenelle Forest day passes or a gift card to Kitchen Table.
