Methodist Names VNA as Preferred Provider, Home Health & Hospice Program Closing in March

In today’s healthcare environment, we are always striving to deliver the highest level of care possible to patients. At Methodist, this occurs without fail in our hospitals, clinics and through our home health and hospice program.

As an organization, we are continually evaluating the services we offer to assure we are meeting the needs of each and every patient who trusts us with their care. Leadership examines how we are performing clinically and also financially.

At times such evaluations lead us to make difficult decisions and today is one of those days.

By the end of March 2018, Methodist Hospital will close its home health and hospice program and Visiting Nurse Association will be our preferred provider for these services.

The home health and hospice program has served the community and Methodist for more than 25 years. Care providers have done so with a patient-first approach and their efforts did not go unnoticed. Time and time again, the program received high praise from The Joint Commission and the quality of care provided to patients was excellent.

Thus, today’s announcement is not a reflection on program leadership or the tremendous work done by our care providers. The program has simply reached a point where the reimbursements for this level of care are not keeping pace with expenses.

Naming VNA as Methodist’s preferred provider stems from a strong relationship with VNA since 2000, when they became the preferred provider for the Medicare patients we serve. They will deliver the level of care we and our patients have come to expect.

Along with our patients, Methodist employees are also a priority. Current employees of the Methodist Home Health and Hospice program will be offered employment opportunities with VNA or Methodist if interested.

The patient transition process will begin in the coming weeks with Methodist and VNA staff working side by side to make the change as smooth as possible.  As always, patients will have a choice in who their home care provider will be.

We appreciate your support of our home health and hospice employees during this time.
