4-Part Series -- Smart Financial Planning for a Successful Retirement: June 1 -22

In response to employee requests, Methodist will be offering a series of sessions that focus on smart financial planning that is essential to a successful retirement.

Whether you are just starting your career or closing in on retirement, each session offers valuable information to help you plan each step along the way.  Methodist will host a representative from MetLife to provide a 4-part series covering a variety of financial and retirement planning topics. 

Our first series is intended to pilot the education and gather your feedback for future topics.  Additional 4-part series will be offered later this summer and fall at different locations/times.

Financial Education Without Solicitation

During every aspect of these educational sessions, there will be no obligation on your part to provide information to MetLife or engage in any session outside of these Methodist-sponsored sessions. These are educational opportunities only. There will be no solicitation to you of future services or promotion of MetLife products.

Each weekly session will be presented twice on the date but at different locations/times:

    Methodist Estabrook Cancer Center Auditorium, 8303 Dodge Street

Session #1:  Building The Foundation
Date:  Thursday, June 1, 2017

You’ll start by envisioning the retirement you want and what that may look like. Then we’ll look at how you can finance it based on current and future retirement trends and your needs.

Discussion topics include:

  • Your personal retirement aspirations
  • Investment basics you need to know
  • Considerations for having a tax diversification strategy
  • Understanding the impact of inflation and compounding

Session #2:  Creating and Managing Wealth
Date:  Thursday, June 8, 2017

We’ll talk about accumulating wealth during your working years, with a focus on investment strategies and understanding the risks you need to manage.

Discussion topics include:

  • Investment strategies for accumulating wealth
  • Investment guiding principles, including asset allocation and diversification
  • Understanding and managing different kinds of risk
  • How to budget now and for retirement

Session #3:  Establishing Your Retirement Income Stream
Date:  Thursday, June 15, 2017

Building on what you’ve learned so far, we’ll explore pre-retirement strategies intended to help you generate income while you’re retired.  You’ll find out how to use your assets to structure an income stream that addresses both your needs and your wants.

Discussion topics include:

  • What to keep in mind when your focus shifts from accumulation to distribution during retirement
  • How longevity, withdrawals and other factors impact your retirement funds
  • The key elements of the retirement income planning process
  • Managing your retirement assets to help provide lifelong income

Session #4:  Making the Most of What You Have
Date:  Thursday, June 22, 2017

In the final session, we’ll review the benefits Methodist offers so you get a clear understanding of how they fit into your financial and retirement plan.  Then we’ll round out the program by reviewing government programs and guiding you through the basics of estate planning.

Discussion topics include:

  • Methodist’s benefit plans
  • Protecting against unexpected expenses
  • Government health benefits
  • The key elements of estate planning
