Quiet Time in NICU Environment Better for Babies

Health care professionals have known for some time that the littlest babies like their quiet time.

To make sure they get it, some neonatal intensive care units, or NICUs, have established quiet times, during which certain activities are forbidden.

Some have also switched to single-occupancy carpeted rooms and added sound monitors.

But researchers haven't looked closely at how well such techniques work, particularly over time, or at which work best in helping preemies complete their transition from quieter comfy wombs, to the wider louder world.
